Miranda’s Journey is taken from an interview with Healthy Living Magazine April 2005.

Miranda you’ve talked before about your own health problems and how that inspired you to take healing into your own hands, can you tell us a bit more about that.

“My journey towards health began 9 years ago when I found out by visiting a naturopath in London that I had chronic Candida.    When I went to see my GP he was very flippant about it as if he didn’t really believe there was such a thing.   Feeling that I had gained no further knowledge from the medical route I decided to read up on the subject and discover about Candida for myself.  This was my first foray into personal health empowerment.”

And what happened as a result of that?

“Well I did change my diet, quite radically in fact and low and behold the bloating went, the headaches went, and so did the recurrent thrush infections.  So I began to thoroughly educate myself on diet and nutrition.  I was fascinated that diet could have such a huge impact on health.  Now I look back and wonder at my ignorance.  I discovered that most doctors only receive one or two days of training at medical school on diet and nutrition.  I have been studying this area now for 9 years and as Mike Adams says:  "In the world of health and nutrition, credibility doesn't come from a piece of paper that claims you know something. No school can teach you how to be healthy if you're not willing to take the journey yourself. Credibility only comes from experience.””

I know that hormonal health is one of your areas of expertise, how did you come to be involved in this arena?

“A few years after I had sorted out my problems with Candida I was diagnosed with endometriosis which explained the lack of fertility I was experiencing.  Again I began to educate myself as the only option I was presented with in western medical terms was surgery.  I read everything I could get my hands on about endometriosis and hormones.  Then I set about trying to get natural progesterone cream after reading about the pioneering work in this field by doctor John Lee and Katharina Dalton.  I discovered I was estrogen dominant and that this factor was linked to my PMS, my infertility, the PCOS I was later diagnosed with and my endometriosis.  When I tried to get the cream I couldn’t find a doctor who was willing to work with me – this was nearly five years ago and I’m thankful to say the situation is a lot better now.  I had to track down a compounding pharmacy that made the cream and then find a doctor who’d prescribed it before.

Eventually I got my natural progesterone cream and I made further changes to my diet and lifestyle.  3 months later I fell pregnant.  I couldn’t believe it and I was over the moon.  I now have a beautiful, vivascious miracle daughter Lola Rose Bond.  When Lola was born I made a decision to dedicate my life to educating other women about health, hormones, diet and nutrition.  I thought if I can help just one other woman in this area I’d be overjoyed, if just one woman could heal herself or give birth or be inspired to thrive then I would feel extremely fulfilled.”

Have there been any other factors involved in your journey to health?

“There have been many other factors. Two and a half years before I fell pregnant I began to address the emotional baggage I was carrying around with me after years of being sexually and physically abused as a child.  I underwent intensive phsycotherapy for 2 years when I was 30 years old and that helped me to open a door of inner healing.  That process has been expanded upon through work I’ve done with Anthony Robbins, in particular his Date with Destiny program and The Journey work of Brandon Bays.  My research as well as my own experience has clearly demonstrated to me that we have to approach healing on many levels, mind, spirit, body and soul.  I speak to so many women who are undergoing physical gynaelogical challenges who have unresolved emotional trauma that must be dealt with if complete healing is to be achieved.

Another thing that was a factor for me was learning about the amount of chemicals we have in our homes and in particular in our cosmetics and personal care products.  My life went toxic free before I got pregnant.  I also started a regular program of chiropractic care, which has helped my health and wellbeing enormously.  The same goes with Kahuna bodywork, which works for me on a spiritual and emotional level as well as the physical.  Also I now regularly practice yoga as well as walking, running and rock climbing.”

And where did the inspiration for Thriving Healthy Women come from?

“I discovered along my journey that I didn’t want to just survive, to just get by, to reach a state of not being ill.  I wanted to Thrive, to flourish, to be abundantly healthy both in mind, body and spirit.  Well here I am and I’m thriving!  I discovered my purpose through my journey and that is to inspire a movement of women to thrive, through natural healthy living and a conscious mind, spirit, body and soul. That is why we began Thriving Healthy Women, to educate women across the globe, to create a network of like minded women who are willing to step up and empower themselves whatever their journey.  Our network is about growth, it’s about learning and healing, it’s about looking out for ourselves and one another, its about sharing information and nurturing.  It’s about not simply taking everything you read as gospel, instead thinking why and how certain sources of media or corporations are presenting information to you.  It’s about not believing everything in the shops or at the doctors is safe for you or your children. It’s about questioning and trying what is right for you, its about common sense, choices and consequences.  It’s about protecting ourselves, our children and our planet.  It’s about being conscious.  Thriving Healthy Women believe in getting the most out of life.”
